HARD TIME
location: Castlemaine, Victoria
Engaging in the relationship between old and new architecture, this studio’s site is set in the goldfield region of Victoria in the town of Castlemaine, more specifically the Old Castlemaine Gaol. With the aim of the project to repurpose the current museum space whilst maintaining and adding existing and new infrastructure, the brief involved designing a school camp site.
Converting old jail cells into rooms, the roof space into a roc climbing centre, and an old wing into an archery centre, I managed to successfully repurpose the gaol by injecting new programs and introducing a new demographic.
